Mining Firm Explores Narra Without Permit PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 17 June 2006
NARRA, Palawan--Another mining company, Patricia Louise Mining Development Corporation (PLMDC), has illegally begun mining activities in Palawan despite the absence of an exploration permit.

PLMDC has been harassing the town of Narra to obtain the approval of residents and the local government to mine the nickel-rich mountain in Narra that extends from Calategas until San Isidro. The proposed mine is connected to the small-scale mining of PGMC in the latter town?. The farmers of the Calategas Irrigators Service Association (CISA), however, expressed their opposition and relayed the reasons for their stand to concerned authorities.

Despite this, an ocular visit by Kilusan Sagip Kalikasan (KSK), ELAC and the media on March 31 and April 1 revealed that new diggings had been done by employees of PLMDC. When the area was mapped, it was found that the proposed mining site is one of the core zones under Palawan’s Strategic Environmental Plan, because of its high forest cover.
Plans are underway to file a case against PLMDC for the illegal exploration.
